Loevendie and Kyriakides at ASKO|Schönberg

Geplaatst op

On April 21 in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam ASKO|SCHONBERG ensemble with Nora Fischer (vocal) and Etienne Siebens (conductor) will present in the program Voices two impressive Donemus-works: Six Turkish Folk Poems by Theo Loevendie and The Arrest by Yannis Kyriakides…

In Six Turkish Folk Poems, now a classic of the modern repertoire, the Dutch composer Theo Loevendie shows a great openness and playfulness and chose six worldly, direct and humorous texts for his mysterious songs.

The Arrest by Kyriakides, for ensemble, soundtrack and videotext, is based on a dream – more of a nightmare – by writer Georges Perec. This is published in the bundle La Boutique Obscure (The dark shop). The dream in which he is chased and picked up by the police refers to his Jewish history and the Jewish-Palestinian conflict, in which Perec occupies a pro-Palestinian position.
