On Septemeber 23rd, the SWR Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere of a work by Dmitri Kourliandski. With soloist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and conductor Teodor Currentzis…
The SWR Symphony Orchestra and its chief conductor Teodor Currentzis have completely rearranged their concert, which was conceived as the entrance to the residence of violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja. Instead, they present an exciting program with music that seems to be made for playing at a distance. Kopatchinskaja performs as a soloist in Giacinto Scelsi’s filigree, microtonal work “Anahit / Lyrical Poem for the Name of Venus” and in a new work for solo violin and orchestra composed by Dmitri Kourliandski in honor of Helmut Lachenmann.
Lachenmann himself, who celebrates his 85th birthday in November, is presented by his piece “…two feelings… / Music with Leonardo”. The work is based on a text by Leonardo da Vinci and is a central contribution to his opera “Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzer” (The Girl with the Sulfur Woods), which premiered in Hamburg. The program is framed by “Battalia”, a highly expressive piece by the baroque violin virtuoso and composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber with partially prepared instruments.
