Composed between 1977 and 1979, specifically for keyboard instruments, the piano is Ten Holt’s ultimate means of bringing his musical vision to life. The work consists of repeating bar groups, allowing the pianists to determine on the spot how to shape the music. This makes each performance unique and full of surprises.\nWhat makes the performance of this recumbent concert in Deventer so special is that it is played by four pianists on four grand pianos. The Natalon Quartet is the only permanent four-piano quartet in the world and has over 20 years of experience performing Ten Holt’s works. This deep connection with his music is partly due to pianist Robert Lambermont, a personal friend of Ten Holt’s. He called Robert “one of the warmest advocates of my music.” The quartet remains true to the composer’s original intentions, giving their performances an unparalleled authenticity.\nWith four grand pianos and subtle interplay, the pianists create a breathtaking experience that takes both musicians and audience on a musical journey.
