DESCRIPTION:The adventurous Chaos String Quartet revitalizes Haydn’s quartet music with an intriguing frame story centered around various characters, played by star actress Ariane Schluter. Lyrics by Joke van Leeuwen and new compositions complete this groundbreaking (chamber) music theatre piece full of surprising twists.\nHaydns revolutionaire Sonnenquartette uit 1772 vormen het hart van de vertelling: strijkkwartetten die destijds een nieuwe standaard zetten voor de gelijkwaardigheid van de vier instrumenten en het thematische verband tussen de vier delen. Het werk komt hier in een nieuw licht te staan, dankzij de composities die onder meer Jan-Peter de Graaff en Primo Ish-Hurwitz schreven op basis ervan.\nStralend middelpunt op het podium is de meermaals gelauwerde actrice Ariane Schlüter. Zij schakelt virtuoos van het ene naar het andere karakter en sluit perfect aan bij de vele (humoristische) wendingen in Haydns muziek. Schrijver-filosoof Joke van Leeuwen is verantwoordelijk voor de teksten van haar personages, terwijl het Chaos String Quartet als stevig muzikaal bindmiddel fungeert.\nDe Graaff’s Battleground acts as a “musical comment” on Haydn’s second quartet, drawing on two of its motives: the trills from the second movement and the fugue theme from the fourth movement. The narrative centers on a young student whose father is a war photographer. She longs for a connection with him, yet he remains distant, always visiting new war zones.
