SUMMARY:Maxim Shalygin: Khôra
DESCRIPTION:The second concert in the “Vocal Parallels” series brings a fascinating dialogue between late 16th and early 17th-century English vocal music (Dowland, Byrd, Bull, and others) and the contemporary sounds of today.\nThe absolute highlight of the program is the performance of Khôra by the Dutch-Ukrainian composer Maxim Shalygin. This brand-new work for solo harpsichord was commissioned by Dmytro Kokoshynskyy at the end of 2025. Shalygin’s composition provides a bold, modern contrast to the historical repertoire, fully challenging the boundaries of the instrument.\nWoven around this solo work is a historical experiment: a reconstruction of Renaissance songs accompanied not by a lute, but by a harpsichord—a practice rarely heard today. This creates a thrilling dynamic on stage, where lutenist Eduardo Egüez and harpsichordist Dmytro Kokoshynskyy become both partners and rivals within the same vocal space, joined by tenor Zachary Wilder.\n
