SUMMARY:Gerard Beljon: Herschepping
DESCRIPTION:Experience a moment where time stands still during De Tijd Verdwijnt (Time Disappears), an immersive concert by Capella Dorestad on Saturday, October 24. As the clocks transition from summer to winter time, this evening invites you to step out of the daily rush and explore the concepts of time, light, and space inside the historic Grote Kerk in Wijk bij Duurstede. To truly connect with the atmosphere, there are no traditional stage boundaries or fixed pews. Instead, you are invited to bring your own yoga mat or comfortable chair, find a quiet spot in the church, and let the music and living light art gently surround you.\nThe contemplative heart of the evening is Herschepping (Recreation) by the respected Dutch composer Gerard Beljon (*1952). Written for choir and harp, this atmospheric work reflects deeply on the concert’s theme. Beljon’s composition beautifully explores the subtle boundaries between sound and silence, transition and rebirth, creating a bridge between the finite and the eternal. Performed with care by Capella Dorestad under the direction of Rienk Bakker, and featuring the delicate harp playing of Beate Loonstra, Herscheppingpromises to be a deeply moving, transformative highlight of the evening.\nThis unique musical journey takes place from 21:00 to 22:15 at the Grote Kerk, Markt 22 in Wijk bij Duurstede. Alongside Beljon’s centerpiece, the evening features a thoughtful selection of works by Philip Glass, David Lang, John Cage, and Gustav Holst. The music is brought to life by Capella Dorestad, Beate Loonstra on multiple harps, and Sanne Jaspers on trumpet, all subtly enhanced by the visual atmospheres of light artist Lubbertus Brugge. \nProgram:\n\nPhillip Glass (*1937) – There are some men \nDavid Lang (*1957) – Again \nAd Wammes (*1953) – A night in a city far away \nJohn Cage (1912-1992) – 4’33 \nFrancis Poulenc (1855-1917) – Belle et ressemblante \nEric Vloeimans (*1963) – En mémoire de nos voisins \nGerard Beljon (*1952) – Herschepping \nJohn Cage (1912-1992) – Story \nDaniel Elder (*1986) – Serenity \nGustav Holst (1874-1934) – Choral Hymns of the Rig Veda – Third group (1.
