Calliope Tsoupaki and Aftab Darvishi
On the initiative of festival Wonderfeel, three female composers (Darvishi, Tsoupaki and Van Parys) took up the fate of three women on the fringes of Greek mythology. In They Have Waited Long Enough, they illuminate new angles and details. Is Medea a vengeful monster or a mother consumed by compassion? Is Circe an evil witch or a great heroine? And how defenceless was Penelope's waiting? The British Natalie Haynes speaks on behalf of the three characters. Soprano Katharine Dain sings them to life in an intense interplay with clarinet, duduk and qanun.
