Hoenderdos: Sela (Aire)
Mark your calendars for March 17th, when Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam will host “Bass clarinet & dance,” a concert that brings together the renowned bass clarinetist, Fie Schouten, and the talented dancer, Manuela Tessi. Together, they will perform composer Margriet Hoenderdos’ impressive composition “Sela (Aire),” paying tribute to Hoenderdos (1952-2010) and exploring the symbiosis of sound and movement.
Manuela Tessi, a Milan-born dancer who has been living in the Netherlands since 1999, has made a name for herself by exploring the profound relationship between the musicality of movement and sound. She is known for her focus on kinaesthetic empathy in her movement research. Fie Schouten, on the other hand, is an internationally acclaimed bass clarinetist, famous for her versatility and love of low instruments. She is the artistic director of Stichting To be Sung, the organizer of Bass Clarinet Festijn, and the curator of concert series Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam, among others. The two have been collaborating regularly since 2011.
