Maxim Shalygin: Angel
Classical, improvisation, electronics… in this concert everything passes by. Composer Iannis Xenakis is central. He would have turned 100 this year and that should of course not go unnoticed. He is considered one of the pioneers of the twentieth century and linked his work as an architect with his compositions. His work is seen as ‘space symphony’, the movement of sound in space. You can hear exactly how that sounds in this concert, in which violinist Merel Vercammen and cellist Maya Fridman play the work Dhipli Zyia. An innovative piece, played by two creative minds, who add their own improvisations. Castillo Interior by Peteris Vasks and the beautiful Angel by Maxim Shalygin are also on the program. Angel was written especially for Vercammen and Fridman. This concert will be as genre-transcending as the music of Xenakis himself; you hear a five-string electronic violin and an electric cello. ‘Never a dull moment’ fully applies to this concert.
