Simeon ten Holt: Canto Ostinato

Simeon ten Holt wrote his Canto Ostinato for keyboard instruments, in which the performer has a large degree of freedom in the performance of the work. This determines not only what and how it sounds, but also how often patterns and sections are repeated. This creates a flexible composition, in which the length can vary from 60 to 90 minutes.

Jeroen Van Veen has also analyzed Ten Holt’s original version of Canto Ostinato and can also play it live (solo). The duration of this version is only 30 minutes. Van Veen was friends for many years with the composer who passed away in 2012. He is a great advocate of Ten Holt’s works at home and abroad. Jeroen previously received the NPO Radio 4 Prize. The classical broadcaster awards the NPO Radio 4 Prize annually to a musician, ensemble or concert institution that makes classical music accessible to a wider audience in a distinctive way.
