Benjamin de Murashkin: Nachtstuck for voice and orchestra (Franz Schubert, orch. by B. de Murashkin)

Beethoven, Schubert & Mozart; The voice of transformation

The torch of the past illuminates the future, and the voices of the past sing with renewed voice in a testimony of our supreme potential. Breakup. Rebellion. Clarification. Man is transformed into something else and more in Beethoven’s Prometheus overture – and Schubert’s songs do the same when they enter the great concert hall: This concert is about transformation.

Schubert’s songs were actually created in the small format. But musically as well as emotionally, the songs are so rich that some of the greatest composers of all time have recreated them in the large format of the symphony orchestra. That’s why we meet Schubert’s songs seen through the glasses of Lizst, Webern, Regers, de Murashkins and Berlioz – and hear them through the agile voices of Yana Kleyn and Arttu Kataja. The Murashkins events are premieres specially commissioned for this concert.

Mozart’s Linzer Symphony is written on pure profit. It is a testimony of a composer who is a master at the pinnacle of his skill. Mozart juggles superiorly with the musical traditions – and adds a few of his very own ideas. The modest becomes big – both with Mozart and with Schubert.
