Ernst Spyckerelle: Beethoven’s Symphony nr 2 (arrangement)
During the Cello Biennale 2022, Stefano Bruno won the National Cello Competition. He is a master student at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Pieter Wispelwey and studies at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome with Giovanni Sollima.
Especially for this evening concert, he takes on the musical challenge with the nine-piece Intercontinental Ensemble. This very special ensemble combines instruments that do not naturally harmonize: since its foundation in Amsterdam in 2012, the company has consisted of four string players and five wind players. The members of the Intercontinental Ensemble come – as the name says – from different countries and even different continents. They play ‘nonet repertoire’, or pieces for nine instruments and they arrange that music themselves, because there are simply few interesting pieces available for this line-up.
Together with the strings and wind instruments of an original and idiosyncratic musical company. This will be an evening that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
