Meliha Doguduyal: Taksim in Makam Suzinak
New piece by Meliha Doguduyal written for qanun solo, will receive its world premiere at Wonderfeel Music Festival, the biggest outdoor festival for classical music of Europe, before the conversation on ‘Lanquage is Power’.
Language is not neutral, argues Turkish-German writer and activist Kübra Gümüşay in her bestseller Sprache und Sein. In fact, language is political and categorises people. Gümüşay grew up with Turkish, Arabic, German and later English and moved between the different worlds. In conversation with Peter Florence, she reveals the power of language, talks about her metaphor of the Language Museum and goes in search of a language that does not exclude and allows people to exist in all their diversity. The conversation is introduced by Esra Berkman who brings another language to the table with her music. She will premiere Taksim in Suzinak by Turkish-Dutch composer Meliha Doguduyal for solo qanun.
