Maxim Shalygin: Angel
Conductor Mikhail Menabde will perform again in Kyiv! This time – with Ukrainian bayanist-virtuoso Ihor Sayenko, who will perform as a soloist. The concert is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra.
According to Mikhail Menabde, the creative impulse of this concert came from Igor Sayenko. It was he who proposed to jointly perform Gia Kancheli’s piece Kapote (from the Greek – “once”) for accordion and chamber orchestra in the season.
Mikhail Menabde: “Saenko and I met in May of this year, when I performed at a concert for the 30th anniversary of the Ukrainian House. Of course, I was delighted by the opportunity to come to Kyiv again and perform on the stage of the Philharmonic with my favorite Kyiv Chamber Orchestra. After all, it was within the walls of the National Philharmonic that I took my first steps as a conductor – with the symphony and chamber orchestras of the Philharmonic. In addition to Kancheli, the Third Chamber Symphony of another famous Georgian composer, Sulkhan Nasidze, will be performed in the program, Musica dolorosa by the Latvian composer Peteris Vasks and “Angel” by the Ukrainian composer Maksym Shalygin, dedicated to the memory of Gia Kancheli. This time “Angel” will be performed in a version for accordion and strings. The composer made a new version especially for this concert at my request.”
