Calliope Tsoupaki & Yannis Kyriakides
‘Into Space’ by Calliope Tsoupaki and ‘Observatorium’ by Yannis Kyriakides on the program by ensemble Black Pencil in Borusan Music House in Istanbul.
An inspiring repertoire selection around the beauties offered by nature… Black Pencil, which hailed by Opus Klassiek “rich in contrast, diverse, adventurous, grotesque and surprising” is the guest of Borusan Music House with “Into Space”. The album, which had its world premiere in April 2022, will meet music lovers in Turkey for the first time.
Black Pencil has taken up this tradition and commissioned composers from various backgrounds to write works, inspired by the special landscape of the Dutch province of Flevoland, home of the ensemble since 2020. The ensemble initiates the challenge of writing new works and regularly inspires many leading Dutch composers such as Roderik de Man, Martijn Padding, Klas Torstensson. They have given many concerts in the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Denmark and Venezuela. Since the group’s inception, 450 new works have been composed for Black Pencil and they have awarded several composition prizes.
