Gaudeamus House 100 years!

September 16, 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the laying of the first stone of Huize Gaudeamus by Frithjof Richard Röntgen! We will of course all celebrate this extensively in the week of September 15 to 22. During that entire week the “Sounds” that sounded in the house will come to us again. A festive week with many concerts, a documentary and fun.

The entire anniversary program is explained and a ‘visual story’ about 100 years of history of Huize Gaudeamus is revealed by the well-known cartoonist and graphic designer Joost Swarte.

A concert program with music by composers for whom Huize Gaudeamus was important. Musicologist Leo Samama will present this evening. Tonight’s work is for voice and percussion. Performers are Elles Venhuizen (voice), Olga van Tongeren (voice), Aarón Ormaza Vera (piano) and Te-Ping Teng (percussion). The concert program is:

John Cage (1912-1992) – The wonderful widow of eighteen springs

Rob du Bois (1934-2013) – Zwanzig Lieder (Selection: 9 Schauder, 10 Mitleid, 15 Lied der Rosetta, 16 Haiku, 17 Alles Denken is Zurechtmachen & 18 Des Henkers Lied)

A Singer’s Farewell Semi-staged performance with beautiful music from the Romantic period. There was a time when increasing age meant wisdom and respect. That is no longer self-evident. Singing at the highest level has a limited duration. At some point, singers say goodbye to the family from which they seemed inseparable.
