November 30: Festival Forbidden Music Regained, Fourth Edition

For the fourth consecutive year, the Festival Forbidden Music Regained will be held at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, celebrating suppressed composers through a partnership with the Leo Smit Foundation, Conservatory of Amsterdam, Donemus Publishing, Symphonova UK, and the Netherlands Music Institute. This year we will present 25 new sheet music editions, with the entire series of 125 scores on display at the festival. The first copy of the latest set of scores will be presented to conductor Ed Spanjaard.

In today’s world, the theme of war and the plight of persecuted composers resonates deeply. This year, the festival will feature two chamber music concerts and a concert by the innovative Symphonova, including six orchestral premieres. The concerts showcase the works of composers who were oppressed during WWII, whose names have largely been forgotten—names this festival is committed to reviving.

Chamber Music Concerts

The two chamber music concerts will bring together 24 talented young students from the Amsterdam Conservatory to perform works by renowned composers, including Leo Smit, Julius Hijman, Henriëtte Bosmans, Paul Hermann, Lex van Delden, Hans Henkemans, and Dick Kattenburg. Films by by Joost Honselaar will be screened alongside the performances.

Symphonova

The third concert, held in the intimate TheaterZaal, will feature the innovative Symphonova—a system that seamlessly blends cutting-edge technologies to emulate the sound and experience of a full symphony orchestra. Conductor and inventor Shelley Katz, along with soprano Channa Malkin, will perform works by Rosy Wertheim, Hans Krieg, Leo Smit, Bob Hanf, Robert Kahn, and Johanna Bordewijk-Roepman.

Please note that seating for this concert is limited, and early registration is recommended.
