Corrie van Binsbergen wins the Buma Classical Award 2024

Corrie van Binsbergen has won the Buma Classical Award 2024. This confirms her prominent position in the Dutch music scene. After an impressive career as a bandleader and guitarist, in which she won the Boy Edgar Prize, among others, she decided three years ago to focus entirely on composing. She writes for orchestras and ensembles such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Metropole Orchestra and Asko|Schönberg. Van Binsbergen effortlessly interweaves different musical worlds in her work. She became known for her unique combination of music and literature in the series ‘Writers in Concert’, where she collaborated with writers such as Remco Campert and Toon Tellegen.

Her latest work, ‘Requiem for Unreality’, written for Silbersee and based on texts by Tellegen, will premiere in March 2025. For New Music Now, Corrie van Binsbergen compiled a playlist of favourite pieces and sources of inspiration. From established names to emerging talent, from classical to jazz – her selection reflects the diversity of new Dutch music.
