The phone lies unlocked in her hand. Her heart pounds in her throat. She hears the rush of her blood. This moment is dizzying. But it seems worth the sacrifice: a better world for all. Under her fingertips rests the fate of millions. From the farmer’s wife in Ohio, the car dealer in Leipzig, to the influencer in India. Sincere humanity and straightforward thinking have brought her here. Put an end to dishonesty and lies? She has tried every way. This is the only one left. But is it really the right choice?
OFFER is seductive musical theatre about the appeal of radicality. Composer Lucas Wiegerink, writer Sophie Kassies and director Annechien Koerselman tell the story of a young woman, her lover and their followers fighting for a better world. OFFER shows poignantly how thin the dividing line is between idealism and extremism.
OFFER raises pressing questions: How far will you go for your beliefs? How right do you have to be to avoid being wrong? And what happens when the line between right and wrong begins to blur? With two soloists, a percussionist and Consensus Vocalis’ 12-member choir, we explore the patterns of radicalism and the extremist in each of us.
‘People are frequently on opposite sides at the moment. Where one does not feel understood, the other does not seem to want to understand. Groups entrench themselves, like-minded people give each other the affirmation they so desperately need. I find the fear behind all this, that a safe future is no longer guaranteed, interesting. Those who are afraid seek allies, fixations, explanations.’ Annechien Koerselman, directing.
