Carlos Micháns: Las Furias
‘Las Furias’ by Carlos Michans, a piece for soprano saxophone, alto saxophone and piano.
As the title suggests, this three-part work is inspired by the ancient Greek myth in which the Erinyes (Furiae in Latin) act as goddesses of vengeance and ensure that criminals are punished.
In a general musical sense, it is a composition with sometimes quiet passages in which the various instruments operate soloistically and then again intense eruptions in which they tumble over each other in rhythmically complex passages.
‘Las Furias’ is an eruption of countless conscious and unconscious musical and visual references, which cascade over the listener. It is the work of a highly cultivated and sensitive artistic mind.
