Own a Piece of Legacy: Limited Edition Miniature of Simeon ten Holt Bust by Jeroen Henneman Now Available
The iconic Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt, best known for his mesmerizing Canto Ostinato, holds a special place in the heart of the artistic village of Bergen. It was here that much of his groundbreaking music was composed, and where Ten Holt devoted four decades of his life to championing contemporary music through the Werkgroep Bergen Hedendaagse Muziek. Bergen and Simeon ten Holt are deeply intertwined — a connection that now finds physical expression in a new sculpture by renowned Dutch visual artist Jeroen Henneman.
Henneman, celebrated for his striking monument The Scream (Theo van Gogh memorial), has created a bust of Simeon ten Holt that captures the ethereal, timeless essence of both the composer and his music. “A sculpture belongs to everyone,” Henneman says. “There is no beginning or end.” This philosophy resonates perfectly with the cyclical, meditative structure of Ten Holt’s compositions.
The sculpture is scheduled to be unveiled at a prominent location in Bergen by the end of 2025. It will rest on a pedestal designed by Dirk Jan Postel, architect of Museum Voorlinden and Museum Kranenburgh. The base will be built using local reclaimed bricks — a tribute to tradition and Bergen’s artistic roots, and a subtle nod to the Amsterdam School of architecture, prominently represented in the nearby Meerwijk district.
To mark this occasion and allow admirers of Ten Holt’s work to bring a part of this tribute home, a limited edition miniature of the sculpture is now available for pre-order.
This is a unique opportunity to own an exclusive artwork that symbolizes the lasting bond between a visionary composer and the artistic community he helped shape.
