Heleen Van Haegenborgh: Symphony for one hundred citizens and a traffic light
Collaboration with artist/theatre maker Thomas Verstraeten. A production of toneelhuis and DE SINGEL.
For Symphony for one hundred citizens and a traffic light, Verstraeten and Van Haegenborgh create a large-scale urban symphony of everyday city sounds. They collaborate with one hundred city residents from all corners of Antwerp, each playing their own “instrument”. On stage: no violins, woodwinds or percussion, but cars with growling engines, a sunny terrace with clinking glasses, barking dogs, a wheeled suitcase sliding over cobblestones, a singing street guitarist, a road worker with a jackhammer, a clock striking twelve, birds chirping… All the instruments together form a sculptural collage of the city on the stage of the Blauwe Zaal in DE SINGEL.
