Fania Chapiro, Sonatine for flute and piano

We will be performing Fania Chapiro’s Sonatine for flute and piano as part of Hope Will Never Be Silent, a global recital series celebrating the voices of LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Jewish, and women composers whose music speaks with bold individuality and lyrical power. Inspired by Harvey Milk’s call to action, each program is a tribute and an invitation to listen to stories too often silenced.

Fania Chapiro was born on June 10, 1926 in Surabaya (Indonesia). Her father was of Russian origin and her mother Dutch. She died on December 6, 1994 in Hilversum. She received her first music lessons from her father Nohoum Chapiro, a violinist, when she was three years old.
