Petra Strahovnik: 4’44’’
4’44” (for bass flute solo)
Between frequency and breath.
4’44” explores the fragile threshold where breath becomes material and tone dissolves back into silence. Written for and premiered by Susanne Peters for the PCCB, the piece invites the performer to inhabit a space of heightened listening. It focuses on one tone, which in time opens up and from there, you enter the world, where each gesture breathes, cracks open, and vanishes. The piece continues to evolve, including a reimagining by Coco Schwarz, who created an analog remix using only the original audio materials, reshaping the piece into a new metamorphosis of sound.
