Martijn Padding: It comes from afar

‘It comes from afar’ by Martijn Padding on the program of Harmonie St. Michaël van Thorn.

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, St. Michaël will perform during a concert competition at Muziekcentrum Enschede with a groundbreaking program. Chief conductor Ivan Meylemans leads the orchestra in a daring and innovative program. First, the brand new Fourth Symphony by the young Spanish composer Ximo Tarín Micó will be performed, in which the legendary Michael hymn is impressively interwoven. The second concert piece is an auditory encounter between the symphonic tradition and the wind power of a wind orchestra in It comes from afar by the Dutch composer Martijn Padding. The concert concludes with a masterful arrangement of Richard Strauss’ musical imagination of his family life; the Finale from the symphonic poem Symphonia Domestica. The movements express a lively exploration of kinship, the relationship between parents and child, family conflict and domestic peace.
