General Edward Top was born in Ommen, the Netherlands, in 1972. Top has lived and worked in London, Bangkok, and Rotterdam. He now lives in Vancouver, Canada.

He graduated from the Penderecki Music Academy, Jagiellonian University and Carnegie Mellon University.
