Aftab Darvishi’s new composition “Map of Freedom” is a homage to the recent happenings in her country Iran, expressing a strong hope for a brighter future. This 21-minute piece unfolds in three interconnected parts, taking listeners on an emotive journey from darkness to hope, ultimately arriving at the theme of Liberty and Freedom. It is a cry for freedom, created by many dialogues between setar, cello, violin, and the voice, sometimes filled with brightness and hope and sometimes filled with darkness and grief.
The text is by Houshang Ebtehaj, one of the greatest contemporary figures in Iranian literature.
“Map of Freedom” is commissioned for the Stiftfestival 2023.
It will be premiered on the 26th of August by the Stiftfestival Orchestra, Mezzo-Soprano singer Luciana Mancini, Daniel Rowland (Violin), Maja Bogdanovic (Cello), and Mahyar Tahmasbi (Setar).
