Canto Ostinato – The Vocal Experience

January 24th, 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of, the birth of Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt. In honour of this milestone, PA’dam will perform an impressive translation of his world-famous masterpiece Canto Ostinato. The no less than 16 singers of PA’dam take visitors into a magical world of sound, supported by video projections in space.

In this unique choral version of PA’dam led by conductor Maria van Nieukerken, all the possibilities of the voice are used to the maximum, with the right timing being essential. The special palette of many sounds is enriched by the warm sound of marimbas, harp and double bass, which together give a whole new dimension to the Canto, praised by many. The dynamics between the singers also play an important role in the piece. The musical lines in Canto Ostinato – The Vocal Experience are enhanced by expressive movements of the 16 singers, from changing positions. With the video projections, the singers’ movements are seemingly slowed down or sped up, enlarged or reduced. Visitors are thus seduced into a different reality, manifesting the elusive nature of Canto Ostinato in an unforgettable way.
