The jury selects the pitches that will be presented on 29 January at the Simeon Ten Holt Festival in TivoliVredenburg. After all the pitches have been presented, the jury will choose the winning pitch together with the audience.
The winner may write the new ‘Canto Ostinato’ with a commission of € 5.000. The winning piece will be performed in TivoliVredenburg in the fall of 2023.
The performers have a large input. They decide together on dynamic contrast, duration (both in detail and for the whole), the use of either opposing differentiation of timbres, or to play passages unison. They also decide on repetition and combination of sizes and sections, depending on their place in the score. The work comes from a traditional source, it is tonal and uses functional harmonies. Although all subdivisions have a fixed place in the course of the work and are not exchangeable, beginning and end have no absolute boundary meaning.
