Andreas Kunstein

Andreas Kunstein (Brühl, 25 June 1967) is a Dutch composer of German origin. In his youth he received an in-depth piano education, and already wrote his first compositions. After completing secondary school, he studied philosophy and history in Düsseldorf. He also received private composition lessons from David Graham and Ratko Delorko, among others.

From 1992 to 1998 he studied composition at the Folkwang University in Essen with Wolfgang Hufschmidt. Kunstein completed his composition studies at Rotterdam Conservatoire with Peter-Jan Wagemans and Klaas de Vries in April 2002. Kunstein participated in various master classes with, among others, Manfred Trojahn, Edison Denisov and Georg Crumb.

His 13 epigrams for orchestra were nominated for the Young Composers Prize in 2000.[1] Kunstein has received several grants, including those from the Otmar Alt Foundation (1998)[2] and the Kulturfonds Foundation of the Künstlerhaus Lukas (2003). Andreas Kunstein is one of the composers who are counted among the Rotterdam School.
