Rita Hijmans (1948) is a Dutch composer who has written an extensive oeuvre for a wide variety of line-ups.

She usually writes on commission, including the Viola Quartet for Esther Apituley, ‘Een grijze morgen’ for Eleonore Pameijer, Cellust for Nadia David, but also for amateurs such as the Oegstgeester Youth Symphony Orchestra, for whom she wrote the work ´Schelpen´, for orchestra and harp.

Her work has been published by Donemus; for string orchestra, string quartet, violin and piano, string trio, wind quintet, brass quintet, work for 2 saxophones, 2 harps, flute and oboe. She also wrote many songs and works for choir on texts by Vasalis, Kopland, Marsman, Jellema, Ida Gerhardt, Mahmoud Darwish and Herman de Coninck, accompanied by piano, flute clarinet and marimba, bass clarinet and xylophone and clarinet quartet.

Her work can regularly be heard on Radio 4. Recently work by Rita Hijmans was performed at the Cello Biennale in the Muziekgebouw.
