Elena Langer Signs Exclusive Deal with Donemus for Chamber Music Collection

The renowned composer Elena Langer has signed an agreement with Donemus Publishing providing for the publication of all of her chamber music works, making these diverse and captivating compositions available to a broader audience.

The latest development in Langer’s burgeoning career follows a string of successes, including a stellar premiere at Symphony Hall in Boston last week. Supported by the Alan J. and Suzanne W. Dworsky Fund for Voice and Chorus, the performance featured the American premiere of her enchanting piece, “The Dong with a Luminous Nose”, inspired by Edward Lear’s whimsical poem. Jointly commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Langer’s piece enthralled audiences with its humor and emotional depth.

Known for her vibrant and colourful musical style, Langer has delighted audiences worldwide with her operatic, vocal, and orchestral works. Her acclaimed operas, notably “Figaro Gets a Divorce” and “Rhondda Rips It Up!”, have earned widespread praise for their musical richness and inventive storytelling.

A graduate of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow and the Royal Academy of Music in London, her compositions have graced renowned venues such as Zurich Opera, Carnegie Hall, and Shakespeare’s Globe. Her remarkable talent for combining dramatic music with poignant storytelling has garnered critical acclaim, with reviewers praising her ability to evoke a range of emotions, from sardonic wit to romantic yearning.

Langer’s upcoming projects promise to continue to push the boundaries of contemporary classical music. From a new comic opera, “The Suicide”, based on Nikolai Erdman’s acclaimed play, to an intriguing song cycle set to debut at the Wigmore Hall in 2025, Langer’s creative vision shows no sign of slowing down. Audiences can also look forward to a tantalising orchestral piece slated for the Brighton Festival, a one-act comic opera, “The Three Fat Women of Antibes”, inspired by William Somerset Maugham’s comic tale, and a new production of “Figaro Gets a Divorce” at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm in 2026.

Elena Langer:

I am delighted that my chamber, vocal and chamber orchestral music will be published by Donemus from April 2024. It is already a pleasure to be working with such a friendly, efficient and supportive team. I am also impressed by the democratic online shop where any score can be purchased instantly and inexpensively. I am based in London but work internationally; it will be a pleasure to establish more musical connections with the Netherlands, and I am looking forward to this new chapter in my career.
