hree composers give voice to three mythical women who can now – finally – tell their story.
At the initiative of Wonderfeel (in co-production with Lunalia, Antwerp Liedfest, Oranjewoud Festival, November Music & Mittelfest), Annelies van Parys, Aftab Darvishi and Calliope Tsoupaki create new, contemporary sounds for three women who have been on the margins of the big screen for far too long. Greek myths have been waiting. They color their stories with new light, new nuance and new power. Is Medea a vengeful monster or a mother consumed by compassion? Is Circe an evil witch or a heroine full of great humanity? And what about Penelope’s supposedly defenseless waiting?
Writer Gaea Schoeters searches for words that do these women justice: moving and liberating. Soprano Katharine Dain sings them to life. Three colorful soloists enter into an intense dialogue on clarinet, duduk and qanun. The British Natalie Haynes, stand-up classicist and compelling storyteller, provides an introduction to the three characters.
