Alain Craens: Metamorphoses & arr. Saxophone Concerto by Paul Gilson
The Desguin String Quartet, pianist Florestan Bataillie and saxophonist Kurt Bertels. Together they bring their new and innovative program Arts Nouveaux.
Thanks to the idiosyncratic line-up, a musical opulence from the fin de siècle enters into dialogue with today’s chamber music. The performers take the listeners into the salon culture of yesteryear and involve the audience closely in the concert with interesting explanations.
Two key works from the golden chamber music repertoire flank the programme: a movement from the string quartet by impressionist Claude Debussy as an overture and the late-romantic piano quintet by César Franck. The world’s first saxophone concerto by the Belgian Paul Gilson can be heard for the first time in a chamber music ensemble and composer Alain Craens makes the link with today with his Metamorphoses.
