Gaudeamus, TivoliVredenburg and the Russian cellist Maya Fridman join forces for a benefit evening for Ukraine. During the evening various musicians (including Ukrainian Anna Fedorova and top cellist Mischa Maisky) will play music from the rich and ancient culture of the country in varying combinations. In between the music, there are Q&A’s with historian Laurien Crump (University of Utrecht) about the roots of this conflict and the current situation.
Initiator Maya Fridman (Artist in residence at TivoliVredenburg 2019-2020) wants to show “the connecting power of music and call for peace” by performing together with the Ukrainian Anna Fedorova. Fedorova states that it is impossible for her to express in words what she feels. “With my Ukrainian and Russian heritage, this war is an unimaginable nightmare that has become reality.”
Laurien Crump, Dr. International Relations at Utrecht University, was a guest in TivoliVredenburg in early February as a speaker on the programme De Duiders about the tension between Russia and the West. During this benefit evening, she will tell more about the historical roots of the tense relationship between Russia and the EU and discuss the current situation.
The musicians and speaker will be performing on a completely voluntary basis; TivoliVredenburg will make the auditorium and staff available. The full ticket proceeds will therefore go to Giro555. Choose a ticket price that suits you.
