Bianca Bongers / Ernst Spyckerelle
Composer Bianca Bongers presents her first concertante work with Ontluiken 花. She wrote it for pianist Yukiko Hasegawa. In the one-movement work for piano and ensemble, she aims to give the audience an intense listening experience with music that constantly switches between introverted and extroverted atmospheres. Bongers is known for her refined sense of form and the way she shapes music as an almost tangible visual object.
The programme ‘Keyboard Love’ is a tribute to Clara Schumann, who, against the social norms of her time, was a leading woman: breadwinner, piano virtuoso and respected teacher. Alongside Bongers’ new work, Hasegawa and the Intercontinental Ensemble will play Clara’s and Robert Schumann’s piano concertos, arranged for ensemble by Ernst Spyckerelle.
A recording of Ontluiken 花 will soon appear on the TRPTK label.
