Bianca Borgers: Stars

During the national Night of the Night 2023, Marimbist Tatiana Koleva will play a program that makes you feel like you are outside in a dark forest. A clear night, the light on the water, a sudden movement in the undergrowth, tapping on a tree trunk. And then just noise, the silence… A concert in the dark, where artificial light is kept to a minimum, to experience the darkness and prick up the ears.

The program is composed around the work ‘Stars’ by composer Bianca Bongers, which she wrote as a musical look at the stars. She specifically chose the marimba for this, because of the deep, dark sound of the instrument. Furthermore, works by Louis Andriessen, Florian Magnus Maier, Astor Piazolla and Tatiana Koleva will be heard, which are related in terms of sound and mood or were even composed at night. Tatiana says: “My Way Home is a piece that I recorded at night. That is usually the moment when feelings of homesickness, nostalgia and dreams arise. It is also a time to dance, as in the piece by Maier and Piazolla!

When you think of Indonesia, the spicy scents of the oriental kitchen probably come to mind. But perhaps also wajang puppets, chirping monkeys swinging through the jungle, or a volcano that could erupt at any moment. Or the traditional dances in beautiful clothing.
