Temperamental, atmospheric, detailed and of great beauty. This is what Jacob van Ruisdael’s landscape paintings look like, and this is how the rich quartet interpretations of the Ruysdael Quartet sound. The Dutch company has been making progress for more than 25 years. They stand out for their meticulous, crystal-clear performances, playing both classical work and challenging contemporary composers to create new work. Their repertoire includes Terry Riley and works by Jörg Widmann written especially for the Ruysdael. Now for the first time on November Music!

In the context of their 25th anniversary, the quartet asked twenty-five Dutch composers to write a short work of between one and two minutes. Composers who received an invitation include Rozalie Hirs, Anne-Maartje Lemereis, Joey Roukens, Guus Janssen, Thomas Beijer, Hanna Kulenty, Martijn Padding, Karmit Fadael, Florian Magnus Maier, Joël Bons, Jan van de Putte, JacobTV and David Dramm. No strangers to the loyal visitor of November Music. In this way a wonderful sample of Dutch composition at the beginning of the 21st century is created. During this premiere concert, the Ruysdael will play a selection of these modern quartet brilliants for the first time.
