On September 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., the young North German Philharmonic will be performing at Broock Castle with its project zusammen_spiel on the occasion of Open Monument Day. A chamber orchestra under the direction of Dutch conductor Drummado Wijnhamer consists of around 45 young musicians from all over Germany who are coming to the region for their rehearsal period and a special concert – with music that moves and thoughts that inspire further thought. What’s special about this concert is that it’s not just about making music, but also about telling stories. A narrator – Niel Bouanani – accompanies the evening with short texts that guide the audience through the program. Alina Sobotta is the director. Together with the musicians, they have developed a format that creates space – for music, encounters, and exchange.

Back in March, some of the participants gathered in Broock for a joint workshop. Through discussions, work phases, and the exchange of ideas, they developed the artistic concept: What should this concert be about? What topics touch us? And how can an evening of music also become an opportunity for dialogue with its audience?

The young North German Philharmonic brings not only its musical talent, but also a genuine curiosity about the local people. The orchestra doesn’t play in large concert halls, but rather where culture can create space – for listening, for encounters, for togetherness.

zusammen_spiel is a concert tour through four northern German states. The event in Broock is open to the public; admission is free or by donation.

When you think of Indonesia, the spicy scents of the oriental kitchen probably come to mind. But perhaps also wajang puppets, chirping monkeys swinging through the jungle, or a volcano that could erupt at any moment. Or the traditional dances in beautiful clothing.
