Bram Kortekaas: Raas's basketball

The lightning-fast Raas has been given a new basketball. He is super proud of it! His basketball is his passion and his life. Until he loses it… Raas goes after it like a spear. Would he ever get his basketball back?

Jibbe Willems and composer Bram Kortekaas made the musical listening story of Raas and his basketball in lockdown in the form of a podcast. Heritage Sinfonietta is now bringing it live to the theatre. With narrator and actor Abbie Chalgoum, an ensemble from this Limburg chamber orchestra brings together the original combination of music, words and images in a humorous performance for all ages.

Bram Kortekaas was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1989. Education Kortekaas studied composition with Willem Jeths and Wim Henderickx at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and political science at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Copenhagen. Kortekaas also studied conducting privately with Daan Admiraal.

Martyna Kosecka: Weightlessness

"Weightlessness" for chamber ensemble is inspired by the works of Stanisław Lem and celebrates the centenary of his birth in 2021. The piece takes up the theme of weightlessness and the specific abstract thinking about the relationship between the pressure described in music - "heaviness of composed sounds" - and their dispersion in acoustic space.

Robert Groslot

The sound universe of Belgian composer Robert Groslot fuses Anglo-Saxon, Germanic and Latin elements into a new and highly malleable language, building upon the achievements of the great composers of the Western heritage. Form virtuosity, sound refinement, wittiness, ‘rediscovered’ tonality and rhythmical adventure are the keystones of the music of Robert Groslot. He often draws inspiration from other art forms, especially poetry and painting. His work catalogue consists of large orchestral works, 25 concertos, two symphonis, three multimedia works, two chamber operas  and many solos and chamber music.

Joey Roukens

His output includes orchestral works, ensemble works, chamber music, solo instrumental works and an opera. In his music Roukens strives to move away from modernist ways of thinking in search for a more eclectic and more direct idiom, without reverting to some naive neo-style. In doing so, the composer doesn’t shy away from the use of triads, tonal or diatonic harmonies, a regular rhythmic pulse, directness of expression, simplicity, references to popular music and vernacular culture, ‘stealing’ from the musical heritage of the past and the odd trivial turn.
