Calliope Tsoupaki: Into Space

The Floriade has started under the nose of Kunstlinie. Black Pencil plays a program about nature and the landscape with music by composers through the ages who have found inspiration in nature. Landscapes, the sea or the sound of birds form the basis of some of the most beautiful works in music history. Around this theme, Black Pencil makes a stimulating choice of repertoire with works by François Couperin, Jacob van Eyck, Debussy, Cage and Tsoupaki.

The top ensemble Black Pencil will perform four concerts full of surprise, emotion and adventure. In Friday Night with Black Pencil you will experience top-class classical music with timeless works by great masters such as Bach, Vivaldi and Debussy, interspersed with surprising excursions into gypsy music, dance, music from long ago and brand new compositions. All this performed in Black Pencil’s unique line-up of recorder, pan flute, viola, accordion and percussion.

Ensemble Black Pencil has commissioned Calliope Tsoupaki to write a new works as a part of the ensemble’s series ‘Music and nature’, supported by the Province Flevoland and Performing Arts Fund NL.
