Calliope Tsoupaki: Thin Air
Music lovers love nothing more than making lists of the best and most beautiful. The NPO Classical Top 400, which has become a tradition in record time, guarantees numerous surprises. Who tops the charts: Bach, Mozart, Fauré? Live in the Main Hall, this top music sounds even better.
Pop fanatics are drawn to the year-end lists, such as the Top 2000 or the Snob 2000. But classical music lovers can also express their critical opinions. In October, the NPO Classical Top 400 kicks off the list race. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is currently the undisputed number 1, closely followed by requiems by Mozart and Fauré. Melancholic music always scores high.
The diversity of the Top 400 list is impressive. Besides names like Beethoven and Mozart, there’s also room for film composers like Morricone and Williams. Moreover, a growing number of contemporary works are appearing on the colorful list. Led by acclaimed Hong Kong conducting talent Wilson Ng, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra presents the best of the best from the Top 400.
