Celia Swart & Jacob ter Veldhuis

You can even enjoy the festival outside the city limits. During this edition of International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, we move to the beautiful Doornburgh in Maarssen, a country estate for art and science. Here, Doornburgh and Syrène Saxophone Quartet present the new concert series ‘STEK’. The Syrènes feel at their best in and around water. Previously, they have literally immersed themselves in Water Music by Handel with soundscapes “Underwater” by Celia Swart (improvisations). Together with violinist Merel Vercammen, for once they do not venture into their familiar wild waters, but onto slippery ice and create a programme about the rise of water. Whereas in “Underwater” the water slowly begins to rise, in “The Waves” the water is at their lips. In “The Lark Ascending”, the lark rises above the water.

Program:
Arvo Pärt (1935) – Fratres (1977)
Celia Swart (1994) – Underwater I (2018 in opdracht van Syrène)
