Celia Swart: Double Parking

A versatile and bold programme that is full of joie de vivre. Music that originated on the street, or was inspired by daily life on the streets, is of all times. With a soundscape and casual presentation Calefax creates an atmosphere that opens doors to new musical possibilities.

The programme offers music by blind buskers like Jacob van Eijck and Moondog and vivid musical descriptions of urban life by George Gershwin and Joe Jackson. “Streetwise” can also be defined as “selfmade” and that’s where Georg Philipp Telemann comes in, who was forced by his mother to study law but instead followed his passion to compose. Teleman breathed music; he was more productive than J.S. Bach and Händel combined and loved by more people than his famous peers.

Program:

Georg Phillipp Telemann Oboe concert
Jacob van Eyck Der Fluiten Lusthof
Moondog New Amsterdam
Celia Swart Double Parking (première)
George Gershwin An American in Paris
Joe Jackson Loisaida
