Celia Swart: The Mirror in my room
Celia Swart is regarded as one of the most promising young Dutch composers of the moment. In her multidisciplinary work she digs deep into the psyche of the musician and maker. Celia Swart tells contemporary stories based on film, animation, music and stage imagery. The main focus is colorful, harmonious music in which Swart can express her love for visual music and minimalism. She has already written compositions for the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Residentie Orkest and Nieuw Ensemble.
In her latest multimedia work The Mirror in my Room she collaborates with oboists Arthur Klaassens and Vincent van Wijk. During the performance, Klaassens enters into a tense dialogue with his own reflection, played by oboist and double Vincent van Wijk. The work is a visual and musical story about ambition, autonomy and belonging. Swart’s music intimately reflects the alienation between mirror image and reality.
