Chiel Meijering: Kiss of Fire
What would the world be without love? One may never imagine that, but certainly not after hearing this concert. Here the most passionate flights of fancy, but also the deepest spiritual abysses, which can only be achieved in love, are brought to life in a breathtaking way! The musical spectrum ranges from the baroque operatic world of Henry Purcell to rocking and classical sounds, as demanded by the Dutch composer Chiel Meijering in his suite “Kiss of Fire”. Purcell’s suite based on the opera “Dido and Aeneas” heartrendingly traces the unhappy love of the two ancient figures. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto is of course not program music, but because of its dialogical concerto form it can wonderfully stand for a love relationship that is constantly being discussed anew. And finally “Kiss of Fire”: In eight short character pieces, the work for spark and chamber orchestra shows the most diverse facets of love and life with the most diverse musical means from African rhythm to pop elements.
