Daan Manneke: Adagio

The birth of Johannes de Doper is commemorated every year on June 24. In the year that Gouda celebrates 750 years of city rights, this Sint Jansdag will be given extra cachet by a concert in the Gouda Sint-Janskerk. City organist Gerben Budding composed and compiled a continuous musical performance about the life of the city patron of Gouda, Johannes de Doper. A few Gouda Glasses related to John the Baptist play an important role in this.

Both the audience and the musicians move from the nave of the church to the choir of the church during this program. In this way, a St John’s Day procession in a new style is created.

In addition to the music composed by the city organist, the performance also includes music from the sixteenth century and music by the renowned composer Daan Manneke.
