Daan Manneke: Cantus Fixus for CaleFax

Calefax and composer/pianist Rembrandt Frerichs share an interest in music from the 17th century, the era of the performer-composer.

Most composers of that time wrote their music while improvising on their instrument. And as the composition crystallized on paper, they deliberately left room for improvisation during performances.

Calefax and the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio perform on the edge of composition and improvisation, in brand new work and other pieces by mostly unknown masters from the past.
