Daan Manneke: Motet Maria Magdalena
Motet Maria Magdalena by Daan Manneke on the program of the choir De Klein Cantorij under Jan Peeters with Veerle Cornelis on organ and Luc Ponet on harmonium.
De Cantorij selected well-known texts regularly sung in the liturgy and set to music in original ways by renowned composers for the program. The program centers on three works by contemporary composers: the creation of Rudi Tas’s “In Paradisum” for mixed choir and harp, “Maria Magdalena” performed for mixed choir, organ, and harmonium by Dutch composer Daan Manneke, and the Basilica Te Deum, composed especially for Tongeren in 2011 by Sebastiaan van Steenberge for double choir and the monumental Le Picard organ.
These three works will be accompanied by vocal and instrumental pieces by Andrew, Fauré, and Howells, among others, performed by De Kleine Cantorij, the basilica’s organists Luc Ponet (titular organist) and Veerle Cornelis (assistant organist), along with soloists Els Crommen (soprano), Anita Dur (alto), Pascal Pittie (tenor), Jokke Martens (baritone), and Anne Zeuwts (harp).
Different arrangements, the use of both organs, and the spaciousness of the basilica will contribute to a unique experience.
The entire performance will be conducted by Kapellmeister Jan Peeters.
