Danya Pilchen : EVIL GAZE

On Saturday, 11 October, TEMPERATURA brings you two special works by the KALI ensemble. Join us to experience two performances by Danya Pilchen, Nirantar Yakthumba, and Nirita Yakthumba!

At this concert, Danya Pilchen will present his piece EVIL GAZE, which highlights one aspect of his research: acoustic interactions between different spaces. The arbitrary scale of pitches played on the harmonium is picked up by the microphone at a different point in the room and fed back into the space through the speaker. This way, whichever frequencies are stronger at that point in the room will create sustained tones slightly different from the ones that Nirantar plays on the harmonium.

KALI is a contemporary music collective based in The Hague. Their artistic vision is to foster close and long-term relationships between composers and musicians, and to develop unique artistic practices together. They have produced, premiered, and performed a variety of works in The Hague at Studio LOOS, Korzo, and Amare; at het Orgelpark, and Splendor in Amsterdam; at Robert Schumann Hochschule, Düsseldorf; and at Humboldt University and KM28, in Berlin.

At TEMPERATURA, composers, performers, and KALI members Danya Pilchen, Nirantar Yakthumba, and Nirita Yakthumba will be presenting:

EVIL GAZE – D. Pilchen
for harmonium and live electronics
Kamalā {2376, 2592, 2673, 2816, 2904, 3168, 3456, 3564, 3872, 3888, 4224, 4356} – N. Yakthumba
for harmonium, fretless electric bass, and live electronics.

TEMPERATURA is a concert series initiated by composers/performers and GROND members Jasna Veličković and Fani Konstantinidou. The series focuses on contemporary music from the Netherlands and beyond, aiming to bring together its diverse expressions. By promoting the wide spectrum of contemporary musical stimuli, TEMPERATURA seeks to bridge the gap between musicians, composers, and performers from different musical backgrounds. Through these temporary crossings, we aim to create an environment—a playful space for experimentation and open ears—that fosters performing, creating, and experiencing music together. Ultimately, TEMPERATURA strives to bring fresh musical adventures to local audiences and to spread today’s artistic practices.
